As we monitor the next winter front coming into the region this afternoon WCBC news checked in with Maryland Department of Transportation, Director of Communications, Charlie Gischlar with road conditions for this evening…

” Places in Garrett County especially are going to get the higher snow totals up to 5 to 6 inches according to what we’re seeing right now. The greatest risk though there’s going to be snow squalls that occur in the area cuz there’s going to be some very gusty winds that follow this cold front so, that’s going to cause some visibility problems. If you have to head west from Cumberland area up to Garrett County watch some of the slick areas on the roadway as the the payment temperatures begin to fall below freezing. We do have a lot of residual salt on the roadway but these temperatures are supposed to really plummet with high winds salt may not be effective so, it might have to treat it with the you know liquid magnesium solution into the salt to totally make the effectiveness down to the subzero temperature so, be extremely careful if you have to travel later tonight through Saturday. There’s going to be some very high wind gust so make sure you have both hands on the wheel and you make a plan first. Go to Roads. Maryland.gov There you have access to hundreds of traffic cameras and incident page on the state highway system and access to our storm map location that shows you where the equipment is and with a 30 minute history. “
