Immigration and Customs Enforcement Moving Forward with Detention Facility in Washington County

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is moving forward with detention facility in Washington County. The Department of Homeland Security purchased the warehouse for $102.4 million, intending to convert the 825,000-square-foot facility into one of 16 new immigrant processing centers. Governor, Wes Moore outlined his concerns with the planned facility in a letter to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem Friday citing economic loss, lack of transparency and indicated a legal challenge could ensue, should a state review find the administration cut corners during the purchase process. “We take great pride in our close collaboration between local, state and federal entities. Our strong partnerships have historically enabled us to ensure stability in our communities.”
