Battle Over Turnpike Eminent Domain

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has a battle on its hands over plans to use eminent domain. The commission has proposed a cut in Allegheny Mountain similar to the one at Sideling Hill on I-68 in Maryland. That mountain sits between the turnpike exits for Bedford and Somerset. State representative Carl Metzgar will be introducing a bill to prevent eminent domain as the project would require acquisition of private property and cause environmental concerns, including the water supply in Berlin, PA.
