Kathy Cornwell

P-TECH, or Pathways in Technology Early College High School offers Allegany County students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to earn both their high school diploma and a tuition free associate degree in computer technology from Allegany College of Maryland. Melissa Kaye who directs the program at the Career and Technical Center  said an Open House is coming on February 19th at 4pm…

“They can walk through the whole school. They can go in and out of every skill. They can actually go in to the P-TECH classroom, see all the fancy computer systems that we have set up.”

Cybersecurity is the focus of the county’s P-TECH program, and students have gone on to rewarding careers while being able to work from home and stay local…

“Basic level helpdesk cybersecurity is anywhere from $40-60,000. Once they’ve worked there for a couple of years, they quickly bump up and they’re making anywhere from $60 to $100,000.”
