Inspector General Wanted For State

Maryland Delegate Ryan Nawrocki has introduced legislation to create an independent, statewide Office of Inspector General. He says the office would have investigative authority—including subpoena power—to uncover waste, fraud, and abuse across state government. An Inspector General Advisory Board would appoint the IG and conduct annual performance reviews to maintain independence. The bill is modeled after similar offices in Pennsylvania and Virginia…
“We do not have an independent investigator looking over those dollars like other states do. Like the states that border us – Pennsylvania and Virginia both have independent inspector generals that allow for vigorous oversight.”
