In the past six months, the City of Cumberland has gained a new Chief of Police and lost its fire chief to retirement. Shannon Adams announced earlier this month he would be retiring at the end of June. The Cumberland Mayor and Council is already planning for his replacement, according to Mayor Ray Morriss…

“We’re going to do a search. We’ll go in sort of a regional type of search throughout the state of Maryland, probably within a 500-mile radius to see if there’s anybody.”

While Adams is retiring from city employment, Morriss believes he will still play an important role with the fire department…

“You know, he’s a trainer and he goes out and trains other fire departments so we’ll probably utilize him in the future to help us do some training at the Cumberland fire department.”
