Two inmates stabbed at North Branch Correctional Institution

Two inmates were transported to UPMC Western Maryland on Friday following an altercation at North Branch Correctional Institution resulting in critical injuries. One victim was transported in critical condition and a second victim was listed in stable condition. Maryland State Police Trooper 5 flight crew administered blood and transported with the ground crew to the UPMC Western Maryland. Trooper 3, based in Frederick, landed at UPMC Western Maryland in case a patient needed to be taken to another hospital. Allegany County Emergency Services support the operation with ambulances from Cresaptown, LaVale and Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department also assisted at the prison. The stabbing incident is under investigation.
