Cherry Blossom Peak Dates Announced

Tired of cold, snow, and ice the National Park Service went the extra mile in destroying an ice sculpture this year for its annual cherry blossom festival announcement.  NPS Superintendent Kevin Greiss wielded a hammer to a bar of ice holding the dates for peak bloom around the DC tidal basin.  Best viewing dates this season will be March 29 through April 1st. Greiss said this year, the trees which were gifts from Japan, hold even more meaning…

“This year is especially important because it’s our 250th birthday. Which is fantastic. And in that context, the cherry blossoms represent a reminder of American stewardship, a symbol of international respect between countries, and a connection to our national history.”
