Allegany Garrett Counties Volunteer Fire Rescue Association Opens Second Community Care Closet Location

Allegany Garrett Counties Volunteer Fire Rescue Association has recently opened a second location of its Community Care Closet, an initiative designed to provide immediate relief to fire victims and their families following tragedies such as residential fires and other natural disasters. The Community Care Closet also supports first responders and their families during difficult times, including illness, injury, financial hardship, job loss, or other unexpected life events. The program ensures that individuals facing challenging circumstances have access to essential household goods, clothing, and other needed resources during times of crisis.
The first Community Care Closet location was established at the Rawlings Volunteer Fire Department in Rawlings, Maryland. The newly opened second location is housed at the Baltimore Pike Volunteer Fire Company in Cumberland.
The addition of this second location will allow the Association to more efficiently distribute resources throughout the region. The Baltimore Pike location will primarily support communities in the eastern portion of Allegany County, while also helping to serve nearby areas in Washington County, Maryland, as well as neighboring communities in southern Pennsylvania, including Bedford, Somerset, and Fulton counties.
The Rawlings location will continue to serve residents in Mineral County, West Virginia; Garrett County, Maryland; and southern Allegany County. While these locations help improve access to resources across the region, the Association emphasizes that there are no strict geographic boundaries for assistance. “Our goal is simple — if someone is in need, we want to help,” said Jonathan Dayton, Vice President of the Allegany Garrett Counties Volunteer Fire Rescue Association. “The Community Care Closet was created to ensure that families impacted by tragedy, as well as members of our first responder community facing difficult circumstances, have immediate access to support and essential items. Expanding to a second location allows us to respond faster and reach more people throughout our region.”
The Allegany Garrett Counties Volunteer Fire Rescue Association expressed its gratitude to the many community members, businesses, and organizations that have supported the initiative through donations of goods and financial contributions. “The success of the Community Care Closet is truly a community effort,” Dayton added. “We are incredibly thankful to the donors, volunteers, and partner organizations who have stepped forward to support this initiative and help us care for those in need.”
Individuals or organizations interested in supporting the Community Care Closet through donations or volunteer assistance are encouraged to contact the Allegany Garrett Counties Volunteer Fire Rescue Association for more information.
