Luke Data Center Only A Rumor
A story reported by WCBC in late February has led to many believing a data center is imminent for the former Luke Mill in Westernport. A bill in the Maryland Senate sponsored by Mike McKay would create provisions for energy users like data centers to build off-grid power systems. Senator McKay said he only used the Luke Mill as a local example and nothing is in development…
“I have not been approached by Allegany County government or economic development saying that there’s a ‘fish on the hook’ or anything like that.”
Westernport’s town administrator has also said there have been no conversations around a data center. WCBC spoke with County Administrator Jason Bennett about the rumor as well…
“We honestly have zero in the way of anyone signed up there. We have zero in the way of anything signed up there. Frankly, that site is a bit small for a true data center like you’ve seen in Frederick County and other places. Those are much, much bigger.”
