“Learn and Earn” Program Will Continue at Potomac State College
The “Learn and Earn” program at Potomac State College was set to end June 30th, but Mineral County Delegate Gary Howell says language included in a bill through the West Virginia legislature makes the program permanent. “Learn and Earn” is part of a state grant program to support paid internships for students attending a West Virginia Community or Technical College. Howell says the funding pays half of a student intern’s wages while they are in school …
“If a company like Northrop Grumman, or IBM, or Automated Packaging, any of these companies that are located in our area, when they’re looking at their workers they say, ‘Look, West Virginia is gonna help train that worker,” but they have to be a West Virginian. We’re gonna get that worker trained at a lower cost in West Virginia, so we’re gonna hire West Virginians first.”
