Allegany College of Maryland Student‑Athletes Earn NJCAA Region 20 All‑Region Honors

Allegany College of Maryland placed four student‑athletes on the NJCAA Region 20 Division I All‑Region teams following the 2025–26 basketball season, highlighting strong performances across both the men’s and women’s programs. Sophomore guards Jaylen Brown and Darrien Ponder were named to the NJCAA Region 20 Division I Men’s Basketball First Team, while sophomore wing Alex Byrd earned Honorable Mention honors. On the women’s side, freshman forward Genesis Alvarez was selected for Honorable Mention All‑Region recognition.

Brown emerged as one of the conference’s most efficient scorers, averaging 16.9 points per game while shooting better than 55 percent from the field and nearly 50 percent from three‑point range. He recorded 24 double‑figure scoring performances and delivered several standout games, including a season‑high 34 points in a road win at Harcum. Ponder provided a consistent scoring punch for the Trojans, averaging 15.9 points per game and reaching the 20‑point mark nine times during the season. Known for his deep shooting range, he produced multiple high‑scoring outings, including 34 points against Dawson and 31 against CCAC. Byrd rounded out the men’s honorees after starting all but one game and contributing on both ends of the floor. He averaged 10.3 points per game and increased his shooting efficiency as the season progressed, providing steady production and lineup flexibility.

On the women’s side, Alvarez made an immediate impact in her freshman season. She averaged 10.5 points per game while logging heavy minutes and starting most of the year. Alvarez reached double figures 10 times and posted a season‑high 23 points against Anne Arundel.

Region 20 is widely regarded as one of the most competitive conferences in NJCAA Division I basketball, making the recognition a significant achievement for ACM Athletics. The honors reflect both individual excellence and the continued growth of the Trojans’ men’s and women’s basketball programs.
