Businessman Takes Issue with Construction in Downtown

Jim Zamagias

A downtown businessman and resident has some pointed issues for the city of Cumberland’s leaders.  WCBC’s Jim Zamagias has the details…

“The owner of a store on South Liberty Street has sent a letter to the Cumberland Mayor and City Council and various media outlets regarding walkability in downtown.  Chris Myers, who lives downtown and operates the Liberty Street General Store, says that he walked head first into construction equipment.  Myers, who is visually impaired, has grown frustrated that construction equipment has blocked access to his store for several weeks.  He has taken pictures of construction vehicles parked on the brick sidewalks, blocking pedestrians.  Myers stated, “While building renovations are beneficial for the city, they must not compromise public safety or accessibility.”
