Citizen Arrested during City Council meeting

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department was assigned to the Cumberland City Council meeting at City Hall. During the meeting, a citizen became disruptive and began causing a disturbance. The citizen was identified as John Readd. Due to his behavior, Readd was advised that he needed to leave. The officer ordered Readd to leave multiple times and Readd refused to do so. Readd was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. He was then transported to Central Booking and later seen by a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing. Readd was held on a temporary commitment.
