More Education Funding Needed to Support PA Students

Pennsylvania hasn’t changed much about how it funds public schools, and long-standing inequities for students.  University of Miami researcher Bruce Baker says Pennsylvania is generating about 4% less revenue than possible, affecting money available for state programs.  He says the more affluent districts have more than enough, but poorer districts have more than 25% less funds than needed for education…

“The average effort is in local communities raising whatever property taxes they want or need to fund whatever they decide they need. And that’s also the basis of the massive inequity across Pennsylvania districts, the state needs to identify, for each district, the cost target to achieve some outcome level.”
