On Thursday, April 9th, 2026, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Devone Theodore Baskin Jr, 26, of Baltimore MD. While on patrol, an officer observed Baskin walking in the 600 block of Greene St and knew of the active and unserved bench warrant for violation of probation on a previous destruction of property charge. The officer then contacted Baskin after Baskin entered a nearby store while attempting to avoid the officer. Upon contact, Baskin fled on foot, intentionally knocking over a merchandise rack in the store in the process. After a short foot pursuit, officers apprehended Baskin without further incident. In addition to the warrant, Baskin was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and disturbing the peace. He later appeared before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance and was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on a $2,500 bond.
