House Whip Unhappy With Community Trust Act

Legislation rushed through the Maryland House and Senate over the weekend creates more barriers between law enforcement in the state and federal immigrations agents. The Community Trust Act puts further limits on information sharing between agencies and local officials, requires judicial warrants, and prevents law enforcement from asking individuals about their immigration or citizenship status. House Minority Whip Jesse Pippy said the act makes Maryland a sanctuary state…
“I think we’ve sacrificed public safety. I think we’ve sacrificed funding at a time when we need it most. We are officially saying that we refuse to cooperate with the federal government on something that the federal government is exclusively in control of. And that’s going to put a major bullseye on our backs and I think our citizens are going to suffer for it.”
