Canal Street Robbery, Assault Arrest

On Tuesday, April 28th, 2026, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Michael Scott Wentling Jr, 22, of Cumberland MD. Wentling was arrested on an active Arrest Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court for an incident that occurred on April 22, 2026, in the area of Canal St. During that incident, Wentling and another male suspect allegedly assaulted and robbed a female victim of her purse and other personal belongings. He appeared before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance and was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond.
