Franklin Street Assault Arrest

On Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 1:30 AM the Cumberland Police Department was dispatched to the 500 block of Franklin Street for an assault. Prior to the officers’ arrival, they were advised the male subject was armed with a metal bar and destroying windows in the residence. Officers arrived on scene and observed the suspect, Elijah Henderson, holding the metal bar. Henderson initially retreated further into the residence and eventually surrendered without further issue. After placing Henderson in custody, officers learned he threw a metal object at the victim causing minor injuries. Henderson then destroyed several windows in the residence. Henderson was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center. Henderson is awaiting a hearing before a District Court Commissioner at this time.
