Former Sheriff’s Office Employees Indicted in Berkeley County

Two former office staff of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s office have been indicted for fraud. Barbara Gooden and Lisa French, both of Martinsburg, allegedly misappropriated more than $3 million dollars through fraudulent activity by manipulating conservator accounts, forging signatures, and diverting funds. More than 700 fraudulent transactions occurred between 2007 and 2024. The U.S. Attorney’s office is seeking forfeiture of any property derived from the offenses, including a money judgement.
