With the recent rain, you may be looking for a reason to get out of the house. Members of the Mountain Amateur Radio Club are operating at the LaVale pavilion this Sunday morning until 2 p.m. This event is part of a nationwide exercise, and the public is encouraged to attend to learn more about amateur radio and emergency preparedness. Chris Clitez, president of the Mountain Amateur Radio Club, shared with WCBC News how the hobby can stimulate young minds.

“As a young kid, I remember always picking up a walkie-talkie and talking to the neighbor. It entices the youth to get out and do something that isn’t just looking at a screen. Especially with current STEM programs, science and technology are obviously the future, and ham radio is all of that in one.”
