UPMC Western Maryland Offers Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

UPMC Western Maryland offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy as part of their Wound Healing Services. The therapy treats chronic or non-healing wounds, such as bone infections, with a targeted amount of oxygen that causes the wounded area to create new blood vessels and encourage healing. Julie Bielec, Medical Director of the Wound and Hyberbaric Center at UPMC, says oxygen therapy is needed when wounds show no improvement…
“If you look down periodically and that wound is not progressing the way you think it should be, it’s not healing, you don’t see healthy, new skin, healthy scar tissue, then that’s an indication. So, if it’s not progressing like it should be, that’s when it’s time for us.”
