Top Scams Reported In West Virginia

Scams reported to the West Virginia Attorney General topped 140 complaints in May. The top five reported scams involve Medicare, Phishing, robo calls, text messages about violations and sweepstakes. Kathy Stokes from AARP said there are some red flags that indicate a fraud…
“If you get an unexpected contact that puts you into a state of heightened emotion and contains urgency, you can bet that that’s a scam attempt. And so what we’re trying to tell people is look for those three things, and when they come together, see that as a trigger.
