Education Reform Law Could Address Literacy and Math Scores

Economic and community indicators for the well-being of Maryland children improved between 2019 and 2024. However, the Annie E. Casey Foundation found eighth graders declined more than 10% in math scores, and literacy scores for fourth graders also fell. Nonso Umanna, with the Maryland Center on Economic Policy, says groups are calling on the state to continue implementing education reforms, known as the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, to stem the tide of declining scores…
“We believe that it is important that the state continue to implement the blueprint – and continue to provide funding – in order to ensure that the blueprint is implemented fully. If that is done, then we can be able to start seeing changes in Maryland’s education score and performance.”
