Now that Cumberland is known as a film location for Paramount’s Mayor of Kingstown season finale, legislation to regulate film production was discussed during Tuesday’s City Council Open Work Session.  Administrator Jeff Silka presented a draft defining requirements, including 30-days for permits and applications…

“So, it doesn’t, you know, eliminate anything, it just sets up an administrative path and gives us the legislative authority to charge all the rates that we need to charge.”

However, film consultant for the Paramount show, Kelley Lynch, told WCBC a 30-day requirement will be a deterrent…

“That kind of friction will turn a lot of productions away because a lot of the time they may not know in advance what’s going to happen, and it really boils down to the importance of personal relationships.”
