City Police Report for Sunday

On July 25th, 2026 the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Ben Richard Metheny. As officers attempted to serve the warrant, Metheny tried to flee but was quickly apprehended. The warrant was originally issued after a Cumberland Police officer investigated an assault that occurred on July 18th, 2026 in the 900 block of Bedford Street. Metheny was transported to Central Booking. He was later presented before a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.

CHARGES: Assault 1st degree, Assault 2nd degree, Robbery, Reckless Endangerment, Resisting Arrest

 

Adult Arrest

 

On July 25th, 2026 at approximately 10:18 a.m., an officer from the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 200 block of E. Harrison Street for a wellness check. Upon arrival the officer began speaking with a subject who was obviously under the influence of an unknown substance. During the encounter, the subject became uncooperative and discarded trash on the sidewalk. The subject did not retrieve the garbage and was subsequently placed under arrest for littering. He was later identified as Joshua Matthew Shaffer.  Shaffer was transported to Police Headquarters and issued a citation. He was then released pending trial in District Court.

CDS Arrest

 

On July 25th, 2026 at approximately 7:40 p.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 400 block of Virginia Avenue regarding a disturbance. Upon arrival an officer contacted an individual who identified themselves as Cameron Lee. As officers spoke with Lee he became uncooperative and attempted to leave the area after being advised he was not free to leave. Officers attempted to arrest Lee, and a struggle ensued. Officers eventually placed Lee in hand restraints and transported him to Central Booking. At Central Booking Lee was found to be in possession of a quantity of CDS. Fingerprinting also revealed that Lee had provided a false name to avoid prosecution for active warrants. He was then positively identified as Michael Jentry Lee. Lee is currently awaiting bail review at the time of this report.

CHARGES: Failure to Appear, Assault 2nd degree on Law Enforcement, CDS possession not Cannabis (x2), CDS in a Place of Confinement (x2), Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace, Fraud/ False Name to Avoid Prosecution.
