SNAP Oversight Concerning to Lawmakers

A recent audit of Maryland’s SNAP benefits program which provides funds to in-need families for groceries, found hundreds of people receiving improper benefits, including a $2 million dollar lottery winner and incarcerated individuals. The federal government is forcing states to tighten up SNAP overpayments or face financial penalties. “People are just sick of this. We want Maryland government to be good stewards of our tax money and people are feeling like they’ve been defrauded because we keep failing audio after audit. It’s happening in department after department despite having a lot more state employees than we did four years ago.”
