Piedmont Avenue Obstructing and Hindering, Assault, Violate Protective Order Arrest

On Saturday, August 1, 2026, Cumberland Police Department Officers responded to a disturbance in the 300 Block of Piedmont Avenue. Upon arrival, Officers observed a male, later identified as Roy Lawson, entering the residence. Officers learned Lawson was prohibited from being at the residence and attempted to make contact. Lawson attempted to flee by exiting the rear of the residence and was apprehended nearby. Lawson was arrested and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center, where he was taken before a district court commissioner. Lawson was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond. Hours later, Officers responded to the residence for the report of a domestic assault. Upon arrival, Officers were unable to locate Lawson, who fled the scene in a vehicle. Contact was made with the victim, who reported Lawson entered the residence and began assaulting her. Lawson was later located and was then arrested for domestic assault. Lawson was returned to the Allegany County Detention Center, where he was held without bond pending his trial.

CHARGES: Violate Protective Order (x2), Obstructing and Hindering, Assault Second Degree.
