Housing Secretary Says Reforms Needed For Housing

The average cost of housing in Maryland continues to increase, pushing young families out of the housing market and forcing some residents to relocate out of state. The average home price in Maryland now exceeds $430,000. Maryland Secretary of Housing and Community Development Jake Day recently spoke with WBAL, saying that reforms are needed to bring those costs down…

“For working families to afford housing in this state, we need a regulatory framework – zoning and permitting that doesn’t mean that the only way to turn a profit on building something is to charge a million dollars for a town home, or to charge $400,000 for a condo, or to charge $2,500 a month for an apartment.”
