Mayor Responds To Caller

A caller to the WCBC morning show Wednesday raised questions about legal cases involving two former city police officers. One, Captain James Burt was convicted of misconduct in office in February. The other, Chief Chuck Ternent had charges brought in an incident in 2015, but with a different outcome. Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss called in to explain that Burt’s violations were handled by the state police, Ternent’s by the state’s attorney…
“Both cases were handled properly. Both cases were investigated and the results were different but that’s what happens when something is investigated. If there is no evidence of true wrongdoing, then somebody isn’t penalized for it.”
