Mayor Pleased With Relocation Program Results

The Choose Cumberland Relocation program brought national attention to the city when it launched two years ago. Through state grants, the city was offering people the opportunity to move to the area with a $20,000 stipend to help with relocation, building, or rehabbing a home.  The program is now ending and while only four families took advantage of the program, Mayor Ray Morriss tells WCBC that more people relocated to the area than what the program indicates…

“That’s why I talk about it being really successful. Although there were only four people who made use of the package, of those four people, most of them used the city part which was doing the relocation. But several of them did not use the state part. That’s why the money was left over. The state part could be used for the down payment on new construction or for rehabbing the home.”
