Paca Street Assault Arrest

On Monday, August 17th, 2026, the Cumberland Police Department responded to an apartment building in the 200 block of Paca St regarding a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male victim who advised he had gone to an apartment to contact a family member. They advised that a male suspect answered the door and a confrontation began. The victim alleged the male suspect attacked him, striking him in the face and choking him, causing injuries which required medical attention. The suspect then fled the area on foot but was located a short time later and taken into custody. As a result, Darryl Lemar Powell Jr, 28, of Cumberland MD, was arrested and taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance. He was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center, held on a temporary commitment.
