Maryland Utilizes AI-Enabled State Government

Governors are treating state government as a proving ground for AI-enabled work, and Maryland has moved the furthest in integrating the technology.  The state launched an AI Innovation Lab within the Department of Information Technology and secured two grants for developing AI tools.  If thoughtfully used, Governor Wes Moore believes AI will have positive outcomes…

“I do believe in the promise that AI can provide to the people of our state.  I think AI has the opportunity to be absolutely revolutionary when it comes to healthcare, and education, and public safety.”

At the same time, Governor Moore says caution is necessary…

“I also, though, believe, that we have got to be on the frontlines on understanding what are the guardrails, and what is this going to mean for our people.”
