County Authority Questioned

The Allegany County Commissioners were questioned why a second land lease agreement with Frostburg State University was made.  At Thursday’s Allegany County Commissioners meeting, Administrator Jason Bennet explained the budget became tight and defended the County’s rationale of monetary decisions…

“Doesn’t matter if you like it or not.  We at the staff level will always try to save the County money, and I’m sorry that you-you might not like that, but that’s what we’re going to do.”

Frostburg resident Kit Pepper Lescallette proceeded to question the staff’s decision to end the first agreement at the staff level…

“I don’t think that you have the authority or the right to reverse a decision made in a public vote in this meeting without another public vote to take care of it.  If you think you have that authority, then that certainly speaks to a lot of the problems that I see.”
