AAA Finds Drivers Think Speeding Acceptable

A recent AAA study finds that most drivers think speeding is normal.  Drivers agreed posted speed limits are appropriate but also considered 10 mph over the limit as acceptable. Reasons given for speeding include moving around slower drivers, reaching destinations faster, staying with the speed of traffic, and avoiding holding up traffic.  Marie Dodds with AAA says drivers need to understand speeding affects everyone around them…

“Thirty percent of all fatal crashes nationwide have speeding as a factor.  So, if we could all just do the speed limit or at least stay closer to the speed limit, we would be able to reduce those crash rates and literally save thousands of lives every year.”
