FAMLI Leave Act On The Way

Maryland’s new Family and Medical Leave Insurance program, known as FAMLI begins in January. All employers in the state are required to participate, with payroll deductions in 2027 financing the program before the 2028 start. Employers with more than 15 workers will also have to contribute. “We believe that, yes, people deserve to have the time off that they need. Whether it be health-related or family-related. It’s how the state goes about doing it. They push these things on to people. If you went around and did a survey, I think you’d find a number of employers in this community who are already doing that, if not better. And now they’re being forced to do this and it will take away from what they were previously doing.”
