Alley Named After Cumberland Football Legend

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council named the alley beside Fort Hill High School after local football legend Mark Manges during Tuesday’s meeting.  To Mayor Ray Morriss, however, Mark Manges Way is a tribute to more than just Manges’s athletic career…

“To me, the real recognition is for what he did in the City of Cumberland as a community member the rest of his life.  He was a very humble man.  He just went quietly about his business and was a stalwart in his community.”

Councilman Jimmy Furstenberg thinks this should be the first of many recognitions for local celebrities…

“I think it’s pretty cool that we’re doing this thing for Mark.  There’s a lot of giants in this town.  Movie stars, singers, that I think we should do more of this for and tell our history of our town.”
