Beatty Denied Parole In Roper Case

Maryland’s parole commission has denied parole for Jerry Beatty who was convicted in the 1982 kidnapping, rape, and murder of Stephanie Roper who was a Frostburg State College student at the time. The decision follows a February denial of a request from Beatty for a sentence reduction. Roper’s mother Roberta has become an outspoken victims advocate and said her family is grateful for the decision, but will face the process again in five years. FSU’s Roper Gallery is named for Stephanie.
