Seniors See COLA Raise

AARP Maryland
Kathy Cornwell

The Social Security Administration has announced seniors will see a 3.6% cost of living increase in monthly checks beginning in January, or an average of about $75 a month. Some seniors see the increase only as a break-even with expected rises in Medicare premiums while groups like AARP look to the future of Social Security. AARP Senior VP Bill Sweeny said the system needs a real overhaul…

“We’ve looked at the issue for 40 years. Everyone’s looked at this issue, we know what the issue is. What needs to get done is to get the job done and hiding behind special commissions is really just a way to hide behind cuts you want to make without feeling accountable to voters.”
