City Working On Builder Proposal

Christy Schultz, a Long and Foster Realtor, has had too many instances of buyers with money turning away from Cumberland because the property they envision doesn’t exist. Cumberland is testing the waters with a new developer, Builders National Cooperative, in hopes of bringing homes to the Memorial Hospital site that workers coming to the area want. Buyers tell Schultz they want a particular product…
“I saw it several times as boots on the ground, working with these buyers and you have a select handful of homes to look at that they’re not really what they’re looking for. And they come in and say, no, this isn’t going to work. You know, they want something that isn’t a project.”
The city and developer Mike Muren are in preliminary talks to parcel out a small portion of the Memorial Hospital property with upscale homes to see if buyers come…
“We can make sure it works and we can make sure that the market is there and then expand it. So, phase one is half a dozen units and that way it’s a manageable scale.”
