“A military judge setting a June 5, 2028 trial date for Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, the self-proclaimed mastermind of the plot. Mohammad who was arrested in Pakistan, has been held at the U.S. military base in Guantanamo Bay. In 2024, he and several co-defendants agreed to plead guilty under an agreement to serve life in prison instead of a potential death penalty. The defense department later rescinded the deal to allow victims’ families the opportunity to see trials play out.”
