Magnitude 2.4 Earthquake Recorded in Maryland

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that an earthquake of 2.4 magnitude was centered about 8 kilometers northeast of Bel Air in Harford County. According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 5 kilometers. Although earthquakes are rare in Maryland because of the state being in the middle of a tectonic plate the last significant earthquake occurred in 2010 and was centered in Virginia.
