AAA Urges Drivers to Avoid Distractions

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and AAA is reminding drivers that even the smallest distraction could be deadly. According to the National Highway Traffic Administration, more than 3,000 people lose their lives and nearly 300,000 are injured every year due to distracted driving. Scrolling through social media, checking texts or emails are the main causes. Morgan Dean with AAA told reporters a few seconds is all it takes for something to go wrong…
“We sometimes hear that excuse, ‘It was just a couple of seconds.’ But if you think about it—if it was four or five seconds that you’re not paying attention to the road, how far have you gone in that time period? At 55 miles per hour, that’s like driving a football field.”
