Annex Bel Air?

Would it help the residents of Bel Air if they agreed to be annexed by the City of Cumberland in an effort to lower their water bills? That question was discussed Tuesday morning by Mayor Ray Morriss and WCBC’s Dave Norman. Morriss noted that the city sells water at wholesale to suppliers in the county, but the time to move to annex the area has long since passed…
“Probably should have taken place from the time that the water started being used in LaVale and down the 220 corridor.”
Mayor Morriss added that annexation would involve all city services and that scenario seems unlikely…
“We would then have to take over the fire department in Cresaptown. Because then we would be responsible for handling the fire department and the ambulance service and things like that. We’d at least have to work out some sort of arrangement.”
