Bedford Street Attempted Burglary, Assault Arrest

On February 22nd, officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 300 Block of Bedford Street for a reported attempted breaking and entering. The complainant observed a male attempting to gain entry into a residence. As the first officer arrived on the scene, the male fled on foot onto Independence Street.

While responding to the area, another officer observed an individual matching the suspect’s description attempting to enter a residence in the 100 Block of Columbia Street. When officers attempted to detain the male, he resisted and assaulted an officer. After a brief struggle, officers took the male into custody. The male was later identified as Chandler Scott Long and was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center for an initial appearance. After being seen by an Allegany County District Court Commissioner, he was released on an unsecured $2,500 personal bond.

Charges: Attempted Burglary, Assault 2nd Degree, Trespassing on Posted Property, Resisting/Interfering with Arrest, Failure to Obey a Lawful Order, Intoxicated Public Disturbance.
