Bernard Defends Move to Republican Party
The candidacy of Seth Bernard for Allegany County Commissioner has stirred controversy in this election year. The basic question from Republican leadership in the county is whether Bernard is a true Republican in his beliefs. In a paid live ad on WCBC Thursday morning, Bernard said he recently left the Democratic Party officially, but he has felt removed philosophically for some time. Bernard has not said anything during the campaign to ruffle feathers and local Republicans noted in an email Thursday morning that the candidate has been largely absent from Republican events, including the WCBC forum Wednesday night. Despite the concerns of some party leaders, Bernard contends the Republican Party is best for Allegany County. Some Republicans are concerned that Bernard was a registered Democrat until February and became a Republican at the filing deadline.
