The Maryland House of Delegates on Tuesday passed House Bill 444.  That’s the bill effectively dissolving any agreements between law enforcement agencies in the state and federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  The vote of 99-40 showed that one Democrat, Frank Conaway of Baltimore City, broke ranks and voted against the bill.  House Minority Leader Jason Buckel took other delegates to task for overstepping boundaries…

“For the 75 millionth time, we aren’t Congress! We’re not in charge of the United States of America. Not even close – 6.3 million out of 350 million. That’s all we got. If it’s not enough for you, run for Congress.”

Buckel voiced frustration over focusing just on one issue since session began in January…

“You keep wanting to change federal policy. We’ve been here three weeks, and I’ve heard the terms Trump, Clinton, and Biden more than I think I’ve ever heard in my 11 years here. I literally feel like we’re in Congress, and all we’re doing is debating national immigration policy, which we aren’t in charge of!”
