Budget, Redistricting, Take Center Stage in Annapolis
Today, Maryland lawmakers begin the state’s 90-day legislative session in Annapolis. State officials are going to face multiple challenges, including a nearly $1.6 billion dollar structural budget deficit. Brenda Wintrode of the Baltimore Banner said two main factors play in to
“The budget gap this year comes from increased planned spending, and it also comes from funding gaps left by federal government decisions. We don’t know how they’re going to solve it, but the lawmakers here in Maryland are just finding out they’re going to have one again to deal with.”
