A downtown business owner addressed the Cumberland Mayor and City Council during Tuesday’s public meeting regarding improving the walkability of downtown through construction zones.  Despite being asked what improvements could be made in these areas, the council members did not respond.  After the meeting, WCBC asked Mayor Ray Morriss about the situation.  He said the City will do its part, but pedestrians should be vigilant…

“As we have progress, we’re going to have construction in the downtown area, and there are times when people—probably the safest route [is to] walk the sidewalk on the other side of the street from where the construction takes place.”

In other City Council news, a man was escorted out of the meeting by a Cumberland City Policeman for not allowing another public commenter to share his peace.
