City Residents and Business Owners Concerned About Walkability

City of Cumberland residents and business owners are expressing concern regarding the walkability of downtown streets as construction in the area progresses. Chris Myers, owner of the Liberty Street General Store, says current construction zones in downtown could be violating the Americans with Disabilities Act…
“You’ll come down a sidewalk and encounter this equipment, and you’re trapped. You have to come back up the sidewalk in order to get around it, or you have to—if you’re able to—go out into the street to get around the obstacle and then get back onto the sidewalk, which isn’t safe either, and that’s—as far as with American’s with Disabilities—that’s really just not appropriate.”
